CHINA WANTS AN OPERATING SYSTEM MADE IN THE HOUSE, THE LAUNCH IN OCTOBER
The news had already leaked in late January and now looks set to become a reality soon. China seems ready to launch in October its operating system – the first personal computer and smartphone – to distance itself from rivals such as Microsoft, Google and Apple. The rumor is reported by the news agency Xinhua.
The operating system may have an immediate application on the computer and then spread to smartphones and other mobile devices, Xinhua said citing Ni Guangnan, a researcher who heads a group of operating system development. “We hope to launch a Chinese operating system for desktop by October that it also has an app store,” said the researcher hopes that the software is able to replace desktop operating systems within one or two years, and device operating systems furniture within three to five years. “The creation of an environment that allows us to deal with Google, Apple and Microsoft is the key to success,” he added Ni Guangnan.
In May, the Chinese government has banned the use of Windows 8, the latest version of the popular operating system from Microsoft that is also under investigation for antitrust violations in the country. Two shots to the Redmond company that would seem to protect local businesses. In addition, in March 2013 China had claimed that Google had too much control over the smartphone industry through its Android mobile operating system, thus discriminating against local businesses.
