MERRY CHRISTMAS
In the early twentieth century , missionaries and students come from outside have introduced the Christmas in the country. A small minority of Chinese have made their own and decided to celebrate it . These groups were mostly in the cities on the coast and in other big cities or smaller . On Christmas Eve supper with friends or family , singing Christmas songs , danced , and the believers went to church for midnight mass . Everyone was a bit ‘ as he preferred . The activities and the decorations of the houses were basically foreign style . The Cultural Revolution put an end to everything .
Only after the policy of reform and opening up , Christmas is back to being part of the traditions of Chinese society. From about 1980 to the present day , the number of people who celebrate Christmas and the New Year has been growing . But Christmas is no longer just the traditional festival of foreigners. In China are more and more people who give importance . For example traders make the sales, shop windows attract more looks, there are advertisements everywhere and all the fun places offer a Christmas program . In this way everyone gains a little ‘ more between Christmas and the New Year.
Of course you decorate the trees in the street. Some families hang Christmas decorations on the front door or windows , but with the addition of Chinese motifs . You eat a Chinese meal , which does not vary much from the usual one , but maybe with a salad more.
They are changing the habits of many Chinese families are embracing the thought that “western” also based on consumerism. Just on the basis of this consideration , we must say that Christmas is becoming more of a celebration for the Chinese, to “copy” , at least as far as the side tied to consumerism and profit. The Christmas atmosphere in fact you can hear and see in China, from the decorations that are present in supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, public buildings but also , even, in some ways, exceed the decorations western , are primarily characterized by the fantasy that makes only the Chinese.
People do not do the good wishes on the street, there are no lines at toy stores for kids, December 25th is a working day like any other, yet they are many and huge fir trees decorated with colored lights and shiny balls : already today China produces about 80 percent of all the world decorations, the toys and all the newfangled season.
