ISCHIA FILM FESTIVAL, AT JOHN TURTURRO IQOS INNOVATION AWARD
The fifteenth edition of the Ischia Film Festival is the day of John Turturro. The fetish actor of Coen and Spike Lee brothers will receive the IQOS Innovation Award from the hands of the artistic directors Michelangelo Messina and Boris Sollazzo, while the audience of the festival will enjoy a wonderful conversation between the American actor and director and the critic and Film reporter Gianni Canova. A replica of the magnificent encounter between Turturro and this morning’s press, during which he has partly covered his career, but who has unveiled his future in the spirit of the IQOS Innovation Award, which is more than a career prize A prize to that will come.
And there is a lot in the future of John Turturro, starting from a long-styled project by Turturro. “A few years ago, I spent a lot of time working hard to adapt to these Fantasms by Eduardo De Filippo, an artist I admire so much. I had to set it aside for a while, but now it’s taking shape again. I already have set commitments, but it’s a movie that could happen not long, because I think it’s a story more than ever. ” An additional connection to Naples, which Turturro celebrated in his Passion movie, which will present tonight to the audience of the Ischia Festival. “I do not think I’m an expert in Naples, but something I know and I understand. It is a special place, rich in talented people, and I think it is beautiful and important that Neapolitan culture is celebrated in the world with the great production that HBO is building to transpose the four novels by Elena Ferrante, which I read and loved very much “. Naples returns to Turturro’s words even when it comes to Italian cinema. “I’ve seen Edward De Angelis in New York Indivisibles, I found it a great movie and I would love to work with the two protagonists, really exceptional. Then I really love Paolo Sorrentino, Matteo Garrone, of course I would like to shoot a movie with them, as it would be great to be able to play with Toni Servillo. ”
There could be no question about the US political situation, and even here, Turturro does not forget Italy. “Trump’s victory is a daughter of many factors, but one of the major reasons I am convinced is that it is to be attributed to the success of reality tv, and in Italy you know what I mean, since your former prime minister used the same methods as a showman” .
Returning to the movies, in the next film, Turturro returns to the direction and especially as a figure celebrated by the Coen brothers in The Big Lebowski, bowling player Jesus Quintana. “It’s actually a character that already existed and I had created for a comedy. Now I’ve been able to get her rights, and it was very difficult, and I put it in a completely different story. The film is the remake of the Most Holy and tells how men can be stupid with women. In the film with me are Bobby Cannavale, Susan Sarandon, Audrey Tatou, Sonia Braga and a cameo Christopher Walken. The film is over and it may start at Venice Film Festival. ”
John Turturro is also amongst the protagonists of the fifth episode of Transformers, the champion of the weekend in Italy. Asked why part of this chapter of the saga, the actor pragmatically replied: “I’m a family, and especially with Transformers I can afford to make the little movies I love.”
